Title: A “Jewel” of a SPA Cruise
Written by: Deborah Mangum-Copelli
Published in: Professional Beauty Magazine

Wahoo and your off to the Big Deep Blue; Ocean that is. Grab your passport, pack anything you want (you get 2 Bags at 32kg’s each)-yipee gals. Include your Cocktail frocks you “never” get to wear, and some pieces hanging in your closet you would only wear in the middle of the Sea anyway. Go ahead, be brave! Over your neck goes your Lanyard (that’s the silly necklace you wear to find yourself, lest you forget, from too many Mojito’s), name badge and stateroom key all fashionably (not) attached to your chest for the entire voyage. Find your cabin deck, unpack quickly, stash your cash and credit cards in the Safe; you won’t need them for the duration; you simply sign for extras. Turn off your IPhones-pleeze………. and Get thee up to Deck 14 and Attic Bar quickly for the departure “launch party” as you cruise away into the North East Tasman Sea. First night and your spray tan is still a golden glow; now hurry along back to your cabin and get into that cute snug little cocktail number because on night Nine you won’t be able to zip it up, I assure you.

Title: A “Timeless” Wolgan Valley Resort & SPA
Written by: Deborah Mangum-Copelli

Set your GPS to Lithgow, answer your Blackberry emails and check your Facebook messages. Ring anyone you need too and give them the number in Wolgan Valley because if you don’t, it’s too late as you’re about to enter the “timeless zone”. Once you make that right turn onto Wolgan Valley Road at Lidsdale “time” really does cease in the way you are accustomed-or addicted too. I made my last call to the Resort just to make sure I was on the right dirt, road that is, as my GPS didn’t “calculate”. I’d been forewarned that the “road less traveled” to Wolgan Valley would be a challenge in my little low body Celica. So for the next 20 kilometers my Resort and Spa journey was about to unfold. With great excitement, apprehension and sheer cliff fear, I was venturing out with no “signal” for the next few days.

Title: Out of the Blue

Grab your Hiking Boots, walking sticks and woollen socks and head off west just one hour out of the Sydney CBD and you’re suddenly “away” from all the responsibilities and stresses of the big city. As a Day Spa or Salon professional in this business of Spa and Beauty, it’s so important to take time out for yourself, to re-program your mind, slow down and do something “just for you”. It’s often too hard to relax in your own Spa or Salon; you really need to get out of town for a short break or a “stay-cation”. I found just the little escape I was looking for in “The Blue Mountains” near Sydney.

Title: Ch Ch Ch CHANGEs……..
Written by: Deborah Mangum-Copelli
Published in: Professional Beauty Magazine
It’s such a BIG subject “CHANGE”, and the word is used so frequently in our everyday professional and personal life. We talk about changing our weight, our wardrobe, changing jobs, changing flat-mates, changing the pillows on the lounge….; change and the use of this word is so common and yet when we begin to try to action change we realize it is not something we can do easily and that it does not happen immediately. Change is a process. Change takes time and David Bowie sang it so well in 1972:
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Pretty soon you're gonna get a little older
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
I said that time may change me
But I can't trace time

Title: 220 Acres of Sacred Spa
Written by: Deborah Mangum-Copelli
Published in: Professional Beauty Magazine
Sitting in an oversized “0 Gravity Chair” that tilted back nearly 90 degrees while listening to ancient chanting music was a “first” time for me with the most meditative Pedicure I have ever experienced. It was almost the antithesis of a Beauty treatment, as I lay “stress-free”, my body feeling almost as if I was floating effortlessly in air. And this was just the chair, which I could have enjoyed singularly for hours on end. The ergonomic weightless designed wonder chair was best enjoyed reclined and still; I could have had the vibrating massage option, but the comfort of quiet relaxation was just what I needed. And my nail technician was also a historian and spiritual seeker as she enlchanted me with stories about the local tribe and traditions of the Chumash American Indians who used to inhabit the land on which this famous Spa and Resort were built.

Title: Spa Yoga
Written by: Deborah Mangum-Copelli
Published in: Professional Beauty Magazine
Unique and timely; this Spa and Yoga concept is the brainchild of Kathy Ferguson and husband, Gordon in Seattle, Washington USA. Already an icon in Seattle for their award-winning concept and design by Architects, Olson Sundberg, Kundig and Allen, this firm coupled with Ted Tuttle Interior Designs converted a 1925 Italianate historical site and building and into the Zen-like space it is today. They scrupulously retained the original terra cotta exterior details to maintain the buildings heritage and integrity and then installed new vents and ductwork everywhere, including the entrance. The design team took on this smaller scale, lower budget project guided by Ted Tuttle, a convert to the practice of Yoga himself. Juxtaposing Steel, Glass, Light and White even the Yoga Spa’s outdoor sign illuminates the karma that lies within. Made of Steel lettering against a backlit frosted-glass panel, this modern industrial-like beacon lights up even the cloudiest and blustery-wet Seattle day.

Title: All ‘Wired-Up’ for Success
Written by: Deborah Mangum-Copelli

It’s so important to take time out for yourself, to re-program your mind, slow down and do something “different” just for you.
Doing something “different” can be your saving grace in this time of adversity and uncertainty. It’s just as the old saying goes; “do the same thing over and over again and you’ll get the same results, do something different and you’ll get a different result”. It’s not to say that what you are doing is not working, and that doing something different will work better; but “different” is definitely good when it comes to expanding the cells of your brain. You’ve heard the phrase, “thinking outside the box”. This is a great time to be doing just that. New and fresh ideas are awaiting you just by doing some simple “mind expansion” activities and exercises to assist with re-wiring your thoughts, habits, actions and reactions.
